Savoury Pop Tarts

Delicious and a great make ahead meal! Freeze in batches and super easy to reheat in the microwave or toaster oven!

8 slices Maple Leaf® Natural Selections® Smoked Black Forest Ham, diced

1 454g pkg puff pastry, prepared and thawed

6 slices cheddar cheese, halved

1 small egg, whisked

Ketchup – optional 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. 
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 
  3. On a clean surface such as a cutting board gently unroll each roll of puff pastry. Using a rolling pin gently roll the dough out slightly. Using a pizza wheel cut sheets in half and then cut into thirds. You should have 12 equal squares. 
  4. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush egg around the border of each square. 
  5. Place a slice of cheese onto base of 6 squares of pastry followed by ham and another slice of cheese. Continue with remaining ingredients. 
  6. Gently place remaining squares of pastry over top and carefully stretch the dough over ingredients. 
  7. Seal by taking a fork and firmly pressing the tines into the pastry. Place each pop tart on to baking sheet. 
  8. Using a small knife make a few cuts into the top to allow steam to escape. 
  9. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden. Remove onto cooling rack. Serve with ketchup for dipping. 


Try making it Italian! Spread 1 ½ tbsp of pizza sauce onto base of pastry followed by Maple Leaf® Natural Selections® roasted turkey breast and provolone cheese. Sprinkle the top with parmesan cheese. Gently warm extra pizza sauce for dipping.

**Additional chef tip** Sprinkle a little flour onto cutting board when working with pastry to avoid sticking.
